Most people who are at all familiar with modern computers know that servers are super-efficient and significantly powerful machines capable of running networks and allowing offices and businesses a good all-around solution for their computing needs. This doesn’t mean that they are a total solution out of the box, and many servers will eventually need to be upgraded in order to continue working efficiently and securely. It is not surprising that Apple offers servers, and their Xserve is one of the most well-known today.
Out of the box, the Apple Xserve memory is impressive, with 8 GB of RAM in place. What is so extraordinary is that when an owner decides to do an Apple Xserve RAM upgrade they can take this all of the way up to a whopping 32 GB instead.
It is important to remember, however, that just like any other Apple memory upgrade, the Apple Xserve Memory upgrade is obliged to follow the configurations and specifications necessary for the system. For these machines the owner has four pairs of additional memory slots that must be filled only with matching pairs of DIMMs (dual in-line memory modules) that are installed in a very specific order and placement. The amount of RAM cannot exceed the manufacturer specifications because this runs the risk of making the modules useless.
Clearly, if a company or individual decides to use a server such as the Apple Xserve, their computing needs are probably very serious and important. This means that the memory modules purchased should be the highest quality and largest capacity possible. Currently, many Mac users turn to either Kingston memory devices or to Samsung memory modules for their expansion needs. They do so because both companies provide equipment manufactured to Apple’s very special OEM needs and specifications. This is, of course, very significant where servers are concerned because they operate non-stop and demand very durable parts.
Consider that all servers tend to need a great deal of space and climate controls due to the heat that the machines can often throw. They also have very specific electrical needs as well, and for these reasons any after-market purchases, such as memory upgrades, should be designed and formatted for optimal integration and performance. They should also come with unlimited warrantees and guarantees too, and this is because there must be no limitation on the quality of the devices installed.
