Performing a Compaq Armada RAM upgrade is a relatively simple procedure that's well-within the capabilities of most computer users. In fact, aside from opening the case, replacing the Compaq Armada computer memory is really no more difficult than changing a CD in the drive or switching over to a new monitor. The design of the RAM slots on the motherboard makes the procedure essentially foolproof.
One must first select the memory they desire for the upgrade. There are several third-party manufacturers who make memory for this model. The hardest thing about replacing the memory will be removing the case. Be sure to take out all the screws necessary and not to force any part of the case. When the case is properly unfastened, it should slide apart with little or no effort required on the part of the user. These components are released via a retaining clip held fast by a plastic tab located near the motherboard. The memory should slide right out once this tab is released.

It should be held firm by the clasps when it's in position. Make certain that the RAM used matches in capacity. Two 1GB boards will work; one 1GB board and one 256MB board will not work. Once the memory is in place, one simply puts the case back together and starts up the machine.
If the Compaq memory was installed incorrectly, the machine will usually fail to boot. In some cases, it will emit a loud beep that indicates that something is seriously wrong. One can open up the case and check the memory to make certain that it's firmly installed and that it fits properly in the socket. Remember to never run the computer without the case closed. The cooling mechanism is designed to work with a closed case and one risks overheating if they're in a hot office or house and are running their machine with an open case. Discharge any static before touching the memory components.
